CHURCH IN THE CITY
- The Worship Album
This was the first album cover I ever designed. It was for my church in Houston - Church in the City (which later became Vineyard Christian Fellowship-Houston). Of the many, many things God was doing in and through us in those days, one was that our church became a gathering place for many gifted artists of all kinds. God drew actors, dancers, artists, writers and musicians. The concept of the cover was that the root of all our worship is Jesus. His pure sacrifice is the basis of all true worship. I first created a tight pencil drawing of the design. Using that as the direction, I asked Al Chinchar to paint the final illustration. He did so in acrylics. That original piece of art now hangs in the home of the founding pastor, Herschel Rosser.

THE VIGIL
- Kemper Crabb
Kemper is among the top most poetic Christian lyricists and musicians of our time. His Vigil album is hugely inspirational even today, years after it was originally produced. We built the set for this and shot it in the studio of Frank White Photography in one very long day. Thankfully Kemper is theatrical, which made this task a whole lot easier.

NEVER BE THE SAME
- Tony Melendez
A “thalidomide baby,” Tony was born without arms because his mother was prescribed thalidomide, a drug used to help calm morning sickness during her pregnancy. Compelled by his own desire to do more himself, he learned to use his feet for everything. He eventually taught himself to play the guitar—with his feet. Tony has become a highly talented composer and musician traveling the world over.
I was honored to have been selected to design his first album cover— a collection of contemporary Christian songs entitled, Never Be the Same. That album received nominations for Best New Artist of the Year from Cashbox Magazine and the Gospel Music Association.
We shot this cover photo on the California coast as the sun was sinking over the Pacific behind us.

NON-FICTION
- Bob Bennett
Bob’s work has ranked among the top 20 contemporary Christian albums of all time. Soon after the release of Non-Fiction, Bob served as opening act on Amy Grant’s Unguarded Tour. We shot this on the streets of downtown Houston outside a busy Gap store.

MARCH HOUSTON FOR LIFE
- Kemper Crabb, Greg X. Volz, Wayne Watson, Jeoff Benward
This was a pro-bono project for a pro-life rally in Houston. For the concept, I decided upon a simple compelling image of a baby’s footprint in ashes. Then I directed the talented Steve Chenn, who very ably shot the small set.
